about kultursápmi
KulturSápmi is a gathering place for the cultural and artistic communities in Sápmi to discuss current topics, projects in progress, and more. The main objective is to build cross-border networks, unify the cultural field, and foster greater cooperation.
The first KulturSápmi was held in Kiruna on October 16-17, 2019, with collaboration from the Sámi parliaments, Innovation Norway, and Giron Sámi Teáhter.
As a non-political conference, KulturSápmi invites everyone involved in Sápmi’s cultural sector to contribute to the conference program. We encourage you to share exciting art projects in progress, relevant current topics, and areas where more knowledge is needed.
The Saami Council organizes KulturSápmi.
KulturSápmi will be arranged in Jåhkåmåhkke 18. – 20. of September.
The Cultural Unit is promoting a crossborder saami policy within the cultural field and supports both traditional and modern saami culture.
The Saami Council handles an annual cultural fund for the support of Saami cultural activities. The cultural committee handles the cultural fund. The fund provides, amongst other, grants to literature, project grants, grants for study trips and working grants. The Saami Council especially supports projects with an all-Saami perspective.
The Head of the Cultural Unit is Christina Hætta.
